Another Major Win

While Tori and I were having fun at Dog Scout Camp, Layla was travelling with her breeder to shows. In Omaha, NE she took Best of Winners for one point, and then in Bismarck, ND she took Winners Bitch for a three point major! A big thanks to Alice Caplinger, Layla’s breeder, for helping us to finish Layla.

New Dog Scout

Tori and I attended Dog Scout Camp in St. Helen, Michigan and we were proud to come home with 10 total badges. The first badge that any dog has to earn is the Dog Scout Badge, and then Tori also took home badges in First Aid, Backpacking, Art of Shaping, Frisbee, Obstacle Courses I, II, and III, and Agility I and II. The Art of Shaping badge was earned by Tori learning to paint a picture, which she really enjoyed. I will try to scan in her paintings, and get some pictures from camp soon.

New UKC Champion

This past weekend was a fun weekend for dog showing, as we attended the Twin Peaks Kennel Club’s UKC shows. There were 5 shows, one on Friday, and two on Saturday and Sunday. Sadie did very well taking 5 Best of Breeds, a Group 3 and three Group 4’s. Pirate also did well, finishing his UKC Championship by taking Best of Winners at the first two shows. We are very proud of these two dogs who have excelled in conformation rings in three different venues (AKC, UKC, and IABCA).

Great Showing Weekend

We attended the Flatirons Kennel Club show in Longmont, CO, and on Sunday, Pirate got Winners Dog and Best of Opposite for a 3 point major. This is Pirate’s first major, and we are very excited that the judge (Ms Sheila Polk) liked him so much. This brings him up to 10 points. Sadie got Best of Breed both days her first time out as a Special. Pirate’s daughter Fallon won Winners Bitch both days, and Best of Winners on Sunday, bringing her up to 12 points with both of her majors. The judge was happy to find out that all her top placements were related!

Our Family of Dog Scouts

Last year my mom, Doree, attended a leadership retreat for Dog Scouts of America, where Faith became a dog scout, and got the opportunity to earn badges in Steeplechase, Dog Care, and Search and Rescue. Later that year we started to form our Dog Scout troop here in Colorado. Over Memorial Day weekend, we took a 24 hour car trip with four people (Doree, my younger sister Kelsey, me, and our friend Cathi) and four dogs (Gyp, Faith, Pirate, and Little - Cathi’s adorable long haired chihuahua mix, who I say looks like a toy sized Australian red Border Collie) in a Ford Expedition to attend this year’s leadership retreat in St. Helen, Michigan. I am proud to say that Gyp, Pirate, and Little all became dog scouts, and each earned extra badges in various activities. Tori’s first AKC title!

Tori earned her first AKC title, the Pre-Trial Tested title on sheep. She did very well, especially considering she had very little training. She is very biddable and maintains a good distance from the sheep.

Pirate got his first PT leg, but got a little too excited the second time around and was called off for gripping. It was my lack of knowledge in how to handle a powerful dog like him, and our lack of practice. We will work on it some more and hopefully try again in June.

Chance’s New Herding Title

Chance, who lives with Kathleen Corum in AZ, went to his first herding trial and came home with a new title! It was an ASCA trial, and he earned his Started Trial Dog title with a third place and two fourth places. Did I mention that Chance is only 11 months old! Way to go Kathleen and Chance!

New Showing Venues mean more Champions!

We decided to expand our horizons by attending some shows put on by registries other than AKC. The first show was the IABCA show on March 1-2, 2008. These shows are judged like a European show, where dogs must accumulate three V-1 (excellent) cards to obtain a Championship. The judge also provides a written evaluation of each dog. We took Pirate and Sadie, and we are proud to announce that both finished their International Championships. They both earned four V-1 cards, with wonderful comments from the judges. The next weekend we took them to a UKC show. Pirate took BOB at the first show, and went on to win a Group 3. Sadie took BOB at the next three shows, with a Group 3 along the way, which completed her UKC Championship.

Sadie is now AKC/Intl./UKC CH Omegan’s Make Me an Angel.

Pirate is now Intl. CH Omegan’s Fire The Cannnons RN HCT.

First Omegan Champion!

Sadie, Ch. Omegan’s Make Me An Angel, finished in style at the Rocky Mountain Cluster in Denver, CO. She took Winners Bitch the first day for a 3 pt. major, Reserve Winners Bitch the second day, Winners Bitch/Best of Winners/Best of Opposite Sex the third day to finish her championship, and then Best of Opposite Sex her first time out as a Special! She also got her first leg of her Rally Novice title. Shadow also got the first leg of his Rally Excellent title at this show.

Big Website Changes

Over the summer my computer had to be reformatted, and I lost all ability to update the website. As a Christmas present, my wonderful older sister Karen redesigned my website. She is a web designer, and built the site originally, but now she has made some changes that allow me to update the site more easily, and make it more interactive for you, the viewers. I will be playing with the site to get used to the new changes, and hopefully I will be adding updates much more frequently now. Check back for an update on the dogs, and some more information on how to use the interactive features of the site.
