Dog Shows
The Border Collie has only been in the conformation ring in America since 1995. Since that time, many disputes have arisen between fanciers of the breed. There seems to be three distinct groups in this battle. Those who appreciate the Border Collie purely for show, those who appreciate the Border Collie purely for working ability, and those who stand in between these two groups. This is where I stand. I believe that the Border Collie is a versatile breed, and should possess drive, working ability, and a strong mind. I also believe that a good performance or working dog should be well-built. This is why I stand firm in my belief that Border Collies should only be bred if they combine working ability with good conformation.
Because of this rift in Border Collie enthusiasts, I have found that it is difficult to find information on the Border Collie as a show dog. Therefore, I am creating a place for newcomers to learn about showing as it pertains to our breed.
A respected Border Collie exhibitor suggested this advice to anyone looking for points:
1. Go to close shows that have had past entries, or try to build an entry.
2. Go where the food is good and the conditions are warm and dry.
3. Never, never quit.
