Kelsey Lynn Donovan
Kelsey was practically born into the world of dogs. She was 5 years old when her older sister Megan got her first Border Collie puppy, an event that would catapult the family into the dog fancy. She fell in love with the family’s second Border Collie Gyp, and handled him in a conformation match for the first time at age 7. She longed to be old enough to show in Junior Showmanship, and when she turned 10, she started competing with Gyp. Luckily for her, the family soon moved from the small desert town in New Mexico where she was born to Denver, CO, where there were many more opportunities to practice her handling skills. She got involved in 4-H, and in 4 years of competing has done very well. Her wins include: Four 1st places in showmanship at the Douglas County Fair, Obedience Reserve Grand Champion at the Douglas County Fair, and 3 years qualifiying for the Colorado State Fair in both obedience and showmanship. She has done well in AKC Junior Showmanship, moving into the Open classes by winning a class of 11. She also has certified three of the family’s dogs with the Delta Society for therapy work.
Kelsey is the most passionate of the Omegan Border Collies team about conformation handling. She finished the first Omegan Champion, Sadie, and has continued to special her at local shows. She recently bought a Gordon Setter puppy, Giacomo, to show in Junior Showmanship, conformation, and other performance activities. She is thinking about pursuing a career in journalism, with the intent of working for a dog related publication.
