Aim High Gyp’s Ahoy CD RA CGC TDI FEMA Certified DSA (Gyp)
Gyp was the second addition to our home. We got Gyp because we wanted another Border Collie, and there was a litter of puppies that was sired by a dog I had admired for many years.
We went to look at the puppies, and were allowed the pick dog, but the pup was not old enough to come home with us. The sire’s owner brough Gyp to us when they picked up thier puppy.
When he was about 3 months old, the vet determined that he was monorchid, meaning only one testicle had descended. He said that the other testicle could be cancerous so we should neuter the pup right away. He was our show ring hopeful, so that was a very sad decision to make. We knew that not neutering him was such a big risk that we had to do it.
The rest of the owners of the pups in the litter were informed not to breed their dogs, and the dam was spayed. Monorchidism is not proven to be genetic, but if it was, we knew it had come from the dam’s lines.
Gyp enjoys obedience training, and has earned his AKC CD and RA. Gyp also enjoys Search and Rescue training with my mom. He is well on his way toward FEMA certification as a Type II Urban Search and Rescue dog. He has recently started agility training, which he enjoys.
*NEWS FLASH* Gyp passed his Type II Certification Test! He is now deployable with a FEMA Task Force in time of emergency.
Gyp is also a Dog Scout, and has earned badges in Hiking, Obstactle I, II, & III, Agility I & II, and Frisbee.
