Two of the boys from our most recent litter have done well at AHBA trials. Charley earned his Herding Ranch Dog I title, and one leg of his Herding Trial Dog I title. His brother Chance competed in a different AHBA trial where he swept the competition and added some more titles to his name. On Saturday he was High Scoring Arena Dog, High Scoring Ranch Dog, and High in Trial, earning two legs toward his advanced titles. On Sunday he finished his Herding Ranch Dog III and Herding Trial Arena Dog III titles and earned his first AHBA Herding Champion point!
A huge congratulations to both of these boys’ handlers, we are so proud of you!

Chance’s owner Kathleen met us in Cortez, CO for three days of dog shows put on by the Durango Kennel Club, May 21-23. The first day there was no class competition, the second day he got very excited by all the other dogs in the ring and was being silly, but by Sunday he had his act together and showed beautifully. He was awarded Best of Winners for his first point, handled by myself. We think Chance is just gorgeous, and will hopefully pick up a few more points during his stay with us.

Chance earned two new ASCA titles this past weekend, his Started Trial Dog on ducks, and his Open Trial Dog on sheep. Everytime we turn around this boy has a new herding title! Way to go Kathleen and Chance! Hopefully we will be bragging on some conformation wins for this boy in the next month.

On April 24th and 25th, I had the pleasure of attending the All-Breed Herding Trial put on by my own Buckhorn Valley Kennel Club. The most wonderful part of the trial was watching Charley win 1st place and Reserve High in Trial on the Started A Course, with a score of 93. Charley’s previous owners, the Grabow’s, were in attendance, and couldn’t remember whether or not he had earned two legs in AKC or AHBA at a previous trial. Therefore, his new owner/handler, Linda, thought she had earned the first two legs of his title, when actually she had finished his title and got a bumper leg! Congratulations to Linda and Charley!

On Saturday, April 10, Chance finished his HXAs title at the Border Collie Club of Greater Los Angeles trial in Leona Valley, CA (at TASK Farms). He also got a second HSBs leg, and an HXAd leg. Way to go Chance and Kathleen! Did we mention that this boy isn’t even 3 years old!
Chance will be visiting us in Colorado this summer to go to some shows, so look for him at the Durango KC, Central WY and Laramie KC, Flatirons KC, Colorado Springs KC, and Buckhorn Valley KC shows.

We are planning a litter out of Layla this year, so stay tuned for updates! We are still in the process of picking out a stud dog, but we have high hopes for this litter! We will post an official litter announcement page once we have decided on a stud. Please contact me if you are interested in a puppy from this litter.

Layla gained the final point for her Championship at the Bismarck, ND shows on August 1, 2009. A huge THANK YOU goes out to her breeder Alice Caplinger for handling Layla for 14/15 of her points, and for letting us have such a wonderful girl in our lives. Layla will now work on finishing her Field Championship in Lure Coursing, and there may be some Rally titles in her future!

Shadow and I competed for the last time in Rally, at my home show, the Buckhorn Valley Kennel Club. Shadow did wonderfully, getting a 98 for 1st place (in a large Excellent B class!) on Saturday and a 94 on Sunday. He is now “officially” retired from competition at age 10 1/2, and will now enjoy the good life. He will always continue on with his favorite activities of going swimming, going on car rides, and soliciting attention; but I was so happy to have him “play my silly games” one last time.
Shadow is now: Bismark’s Outback Cupid CD RE CGC
Kelsey’s Gordon Setter, Giacomo, also picked up 1 point by going WD/BOW.
